My Portfolio Has Some Real Oddballs In It

In addition to trending topics such as Wind Energy & Natural Gas, and legacy programs like Weather Camp & Music Camp, I also get some very… specific… industry/academic conferences.  Underwater Acoustics, Rarefied Gas Dynamics, Adaptive Structures and HEC-RAS (a software package that does hydrolic modeling for dam safety). In some cases there are only 150 possible attendees alive on the planet, and it’s my job to get them all here.

When I was marketing HEC-RAS, I made an assumption in my head that Social Networking probably wouldn’t be a factor.  Yet, I did a search anyway.  I was pleasantly surprised to find 8 pages and/or Facebook Groups related to hydrology. Most notably was the IAHR Young Researchers Group.  475 members of exactly what I was looking for. Not only did I post to this group, but also sent a note to the administrator who agreed to forward it to all 475 members AND to the 12,000 members, worldwide, of the IAHR.

Big win.

My next adventure of Oddball Marketing, and a future post,  will be about twollow.com, a not-free tool to get Twitter followers. One would assume that it goes against many of the rules and good-practices of Twitter, but I’m done assuming anything in this crazy, crazy world of Social Media Marketing.
